The Exile's Transformation
What's something you enjoy doing that requires certain equipment? Maybe it's an outdoor activity. Maybe you have musical equipment or some other specialized gear for your hobby. What kind of equipment do you have, and why do you need it?
Review the last few weeks of your 1 Peter study. What have been some major themes that you remember? Share with the group some of the things you have been thinking about as you have continued your study of this letter.
Read 1 Peter 4:1-11 aloud.
What does Peter want us to "arm" (or equip) ourselves with in verse 1? How might our human inclinations be different from the will of God (v. 2)? What are some practical things you can do to live for God's will rather than your own desires?
What are some things that stir your affections or passions? What are some practices that stir those affections? How could you apply those kind of practices to spiritual things?
Verse 7 reminds us that the end of all things is at hand. How would understanding this give us more of a sense of urgency about how we live? What would you do differently if you knew that Christ's return were going to be in the next 12 months?
What does practicing love and hospitality (v. 7-8) communicate to the people around us? Share an example of a time that you were shown love and hospitality. How did that experience make you feel?
Verses 10-11 deal with using the gifts God has given us. What are some of the spiritual gifts that people in your group have been given? How could your group release those gifts to glorify Jesus Christ (v. 10)?
What is one thing you can do this week to bring glory to Jesus Christ?
