A Generous Heart

A Generous Heart

Icebreaker:

If you discovered a treasure chest hidden in a barn or attic, what would you hope to find inside?

Read Aloud:

Have someone read Matthew 6:19–24 aloud to the group.

Storing Up Treasures (Matthew 6:19–21)

• According to Jesus, what ultimately happens to earthly treasures?

• What kinds of things do people commonly "store up"?

• What does it mean to store up treasures in heaven?

• Where do you find your heart being drawn? What does that reveal about where your treasure is?

The Eye (Matthew 6:22–23)

• Jesus says, “The eye is the lamp of the body.” What does He mean by that?

• How is the eye in verses 22–23 connected to the heart in verse 21?

• How do we let God’s light into our lives and avoid spiritual darkness?

Two Masters (Matthew 6:24)

• Jesus presents a choice between two masters. What does it mean to have a master?

• In what ways can money become a master in our lives?

• How does being mastered by God look different from being mastered by money?

• Why is it impossible to serve both God and money?

Application & Prayer Time:

• Which part of Jesus' teaching challenges you the most—two treasures, two visions, or two masters? Why?

• What does a healthy, biblical view of money look like for followers of Jesus?

• How can we encourage and help one another to serve God wholeheartedly, with undivided hearts?

Closing Prayer:

End your time together by praying the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13) aloud as a group.
